Skaggs Community Hospital is a Level III Trauma Center, and we model our service according to the American College of Surgeons and state trauma guidelines. The only hospital in a wide area, we provide trauma care to the local and traveling public. Most trauma cases we see result from motor vehicle accidents. The Ozark mountain roads surrounding the Branson area are tortuous. Accidents often involve multiple victims. Tour bus accidents are a challenge, requiring participation from a larger regional trauma center.
Most recreation in this area centers around Table Rock Lake. As the weather warms up, water
sports injuries increase. Being thrown from a motor boat is one of the most dangerous situations,
especially if the motor's automatic kill device malfunctions or is not
used appropriately. Last year three people were
thrown out of a boat; two died and one was critically injured. A running boat continues to circle,
causing repetitive injuries. Anyone who falls from a boat should swim away from the boat as soon as
possible.
