Bollinger County University Extension Council member Robert Dixon received the University of Missouri Presidential Citation for Outstanding Service to University Extension Feb. 27, presented in Jefferson City.
Dixon, an extension council member since 1987, has held the offices of council president, vice president and secretary. He was a key player in restoring funding to reopen the Bollinger County extension office in the 1980s.
In accepting the award, presented by UM President George Russell, Dixon said: "As a team player, whatever your position, it is important that we recognize the value of the people we work with. It takes everyone to make a team a success. That is why I am dedicated to the success of extension and education as a whole."
Dixon is a regional representative to the Missouri Extension County Council Leadership Conference, which serves as a link between county councils and University Outreach and Extension leadership.
As a team player, Dixon seeks the input of council members to make sure that MECCLC's goals are representative of the state. "He sees as a priority everyone working together with open and honest communication," his nominators wrote. "He has been instrumental in making sure that county councils have a voice and are represented in extension's future."
For the past four years, Dixon has served on the Regional Advisory Council for University Extension. "He was instrumental in the visioning process, leading discussions and encouraging local leaders to attend," his nominators wrote.
In addition, he serves on the regional advisory councils for agriculture and
business, and on University Outreach and Extension's Value-Added Agriculture
Focus Team, one of eight teams formed statewide to develop educational
programs to meet citizens' self-identified needs.
